Buspar social anxiety disorder

1. Introduction

The most common adverse reactions in patients taking buspirone are gastrointestinal disorders, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as headache, fatigue, insomnia, and joint and muscle pain. These reactions are more likely to occur with concomitant use of a benzodiazepine-like medication, including buspirone, and are generally self-limiting and self-limited.

In patients with a history of seizures, the most commonly reported side effects of buspirone include insomnia, decreased appetite, nausea, and dry mouth. These reactions are also common in patients who do not take other medications to treat seizures.

Buspirone is one of the most commonly prescribed medications for the treatment of anxiety disorders. In addition to benzodiazepines, other medications prescribed to treat anxiety include non-benzodiazepine anxiolytics, sedative-hypnotics, and hypnotics. Although buspirone is a commonly prescribed medication for anxiety disorders, the use of other medications for anxiety also increases the risk of side effects.

The risk of adverse reactions in buspirone use is also increased by concurrent administration of a benzodiazepine-like drug, including the anxiolytic benzodiazepine hydrochlorothiazide (brand name: Buspar, Viatrisa, Farmalider, and others) (Table ). These effects may include extrapyramidal and extrapyramidal symptoms (involuntary and involuntary muscle movements), which can occur at any time during treatment and may lead to withdrawal symptoms (Table ).

The use of buspirone in patients with a history of seizures is associated with an increased risk of the following adverse effects:

  • anorexia (loss of appetite)
  • weight gain
  • decreased sweating
  • dizziness
  • decreased urination
  • increased blood pressure
  • drowsiness
  • decreased sense of taste and smell

The risk of serious adverse reactions with the use of buspirone is also increased by concomitant use of a benzodiazepine-like drug, including the anxiolytic anxiolytic hydrochlorothiazide (brand name: Buspar, Viatrisa, Farmalider, and others) (Table ). The risk of the following adverse effects:

  • hypotension
  • hypoglycemia
  • hypoglycemia/hypoglycemia
  • hypotension/hypoglycemia (reduced blood glucose)
  • hyperglycemia/hyperglycemia
  • hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia (low blood glucose)
  • hypoglycemia/hypoglycemia (increased blood sugar)
  • hypoglycemia/hyperglycemia (low blood glucose)
  • hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia (increased blood sugar)
  • diabetes mellitus
  • diabetes mellitus (condition that does not control blood glucose)
  • dementia
  • depression

Athlete's foot may also be an adverse effect of buspirone. Although this is not a direct cause of the reaction, other possible effects on the nervous system may include increased sweating, nausea, and vomiting, as well as other changes in the body. The risk of these effects may increase with the concurrent use of benzodiazepines and a benzodiazepine-like drug, including buspirone, in patients with a history of seizures.

The risk of a benzodiazepine-like drug-related adverse effects may also increase when a benzodiazepine is added to buspirone. For example, a benzodiazepine-like drug may increase the risk of developing drug-related side effects if combined with a buspirone anticonvulsant and anti-seizure medication.

The use of other medications that may increase the risk of adverse effects is also associated with the risk of buspirone-related adverse effects. These medications, including the anti-seizure drugs benzocaine and hydrocodone, are used to treat epilepsy, seizures, and other mental disorders.
